HOUSTON – KPRC 2 and American Furniture Warehouse are surprising 20 deserving high school seniors with $2,500 scholarships in 2025. All students selected for scholarships have been nominated by their high schools.
Annasophia Danao, a senior at Westfield High School, is this week’s KPRC 2-American Furniture Warehouse Senior Scholarship winner. Westfield High School is part of the Spring Independent School District.
Danao is academically ranked fifth out of 520 students in Westfield High School’s Class of 2025. She is lead Drum Major for the Westfield Big Red Band and plays the flute. Danao earned her first-degree black belt in Taekwondo. She also serves as Vice President for her school’s chapter of the National Honor Society.
Giving back to her community is important to Danao, as evidenced by the hundreds of volunteer hours she has accumulated. Danao lists Kids’ Meals as one of the organizations she enjoys volunteering with to help pack free lunches for children in need. She has also coordinated band performances at senior living communities.
This fall, Danao will be attending the University of Texas at Austin to study psychology. She hopes to work with children diagnosed with autism and developmental disabilities. In her scholarship nomination essay, Danao said, “As an academic tutor, I work with K-12 students, including neuro-divergent learners, adapting to each child’s individual needs. This experience has further motivated my commitment to creating inclusive environments for children, no matter their capabilities.”
