The Green Bay Packers have selected Texas wide receiver Matthew Golden with the 23rd overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Golden attended Klein Cain High School in the Houston area. As a four-star recruit, he committed to stay home and play for the Houston Cougars.

He spent two seasons at UH, before entering the transfer portal and committing to play for the University of Texas for his junior season in 2024.
That transfer helped Golden break onto the scene in 2024. Despite being a part of a star-studded receiving corps with the Longhorns, Golden solidified himself as one of Quinn Ewers’ most reliable targets. He said career-highs in receptions (58), receiving yards (987) and receiving touchdowns (nine).
Plenty of players are able to put up strong college numbers, but NFL scouts were curious to see if Golden’s electric highlights would translate to the NFL level. He silenced all the skeptics, running a blazing 4.29-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine.
His impressive junior year and strong measurables made him a strong contender to be a first-round pick, even in a draft featuring other elite receiving prospects, like Travis Hunter, Tetairoa McMillan and Luther Burden III.
Congratulations, Matthew! Best of luck in Green Bay.
