HOUSTON – KPRC 2 and American Furniture Warehouse are surprising 20 deserving high school seniors with $2,500 scholarships in 2025. All students selected for scholarships have been nominated by their high schools.
Hezekiah Burks, a senior at Ross Shaw Sterling Aviation Early College High School, is this week’s KPRC 2-American Furniture Warehouse Senior Scholarship winner. Sterling High School is part of the Houston Independent School District.
Burks is a scholar-athlete ranked sixth in his graduating class. He serves as senior class vice president and was named Sir Sterling, the school’s designation for homecoming king.
A skilled athlete, Burks is a four-year varsity football starter and first team all district winner. He is a decorated hurdler in track, competing all four years on the varsity team and earning second-place standing in his school’s all-time record.
Burks plans to study biofuel technology in college.
