A frightening situation caused play to be stopped for several minutes in Easter Sunday’s game between the Houston Astros and the San Diego Padres.

In just the second at bat of the game, Padres designated hitter Luis Arraez had to be carted off of the field on a stretcher after suffering an injury, seemingly to the head, neck or back, during a collision at first base.

Arraez hit a ground ball that was quickly handled by Astros’ first baseman Christian Walker, who had to take several steps off the bag to corral the grounder.

Walker dished the ball to second baseman Mauricio Dubon, who leaped his foot onto the bag in an attempt to beat the runner. Arraez sprinted into Dubon’s shoulder at full speed, immediately going limp and flying backwards from the impact.

Medical personnel rushed to the field, and Arraez was placed on a stretcher and taken off the field. We do not have an update on his condition at this time.
