Montero joined the Astros in 2021, following stints with the New York Mets, Texas Rangers and Seattle Mariners between 2014 and 2021.
Montero appeared in 187 games across his five seasons in Houston, totaling a 9-8 record overall with 15 saves and 185 strikeouts.
In arguably his biggest moment as an Astro, he pitched in the eighth inning of what would become a combined no-hitter in Game 4 of the 2022 World Series. The Astros would go on to win that title against the Philadelphia Phillies in six games.
He signed a three-year, $34.5 million extension with the Astros ahead of the 2023 season, but was designated for assignment by the team in 2024.
He appeared in three games for the Astros in 2025 prior to the trade. In 4.0 innings of action, he recorded five strikeouts while allowing three hits, two walks and two earned runs.
