KPRC 2’s Ricky Munoz was at the University of Houston campus Sunday, where students are still letting it sink in.
“It’s calmer out here, but last night this place was crazy!” Munoz reported.
Our Cathy Hernandez went back to the campus Monday to see if the energy was still as palpable.
Houston is back in the title game for the first time since 1984. The defense locked in, holding Duke to just one field goal over the final ten and a half minutes, completely shutting down Cooper Flagg and the Blue Devils’ title hopes.
LJ Cryer dropped 26 points, while J’Wan Roberts hit two clutch free throws to give the Cougars the lead—and they never looked back. From down 14, Houston secured a 70–67 win. The celebration on campus and across San Antonio was electric.

Sekoi Henry shared her experience: “I’m not gonna lie, the whole time I was kinda like quiet. Me and my sister were just staring at the whole time, just like...”
During the game, she didn’t say much, just sat quietly, watching it all unfold. But when the Cougars started clawing their way back, she couldn’t contain her excitement.
“I was like, there’s no way we’re about to go to the Natty, because I haven’t been to the Natty since like, the ‘80s. So I was like, I can’t, but like, I’m here, and I’m watching. Like, that’s insane.”
After the final buzzer, there was nothing but pride among the fans. “We get to flex on everybody that counted us out,” Henry said. “Like, I think last night before the game we only had like a 30% chance of winning, and throughout the entire thing it was Duke, Duke, Duke, Duke, Duke this, Duke that, Cooper this, blah, blah, blah.”
Next up for the Cougars are the Florida Gators, who took down Auburn. The stage is set for Monday night’s national championship—Cougars vs. Gators.
