Astros take down Mets 2-1 to win first series of 2025 season

The Houston Astros kicked off their 2025 season with a three-game series against the New York Mets. After splitting the first two games, they met Saturday night for the third and final match of the road trip.

In a low-scoring affair, the Astros held on for a 2-1 victory.

The game’s deciding run was scored in the sixth inning, when a double from Yordan Alvarez brought in Isaac Paredes to break the 1-1 tie.

Spencer Arrighetti got the start at the mound, finishing allowing one hit, one run and two walks. He also recorded five strikeouts in his 6.0 innings of action.

Closer Josh Hader came into the game at the start of the ninth inning. After walking Juan Soto, he forced infield outs from the next three batters to keep the Mets off the board and seal the win.

The Astros’ next game will be the first match of a three-game series against the San Francisco Giants on March 31. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
