The Galveston Island Humane Society (GIHS) invites the public to a free, community-wide event hosted by Frances Moody Buzbee on Saturday, March 29, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Moody Mansion, located at 2618 Broadway.
Earlier this month, 71 animals were seized and taken to GIHS after being found neglected and abused while living on a bus in Galveston. With assistance from the Houston SPCA and numerous volunteers, the shelter quickly mobilized to medically assess each animal and provide necessary care.

To accommodate the influx of animals in the already crowded shelter, GIHS requested the public’s help in volunteering time and donations. In response, Galveston-native and animal advocate Frances Moody Buzbee generously donated to the shelter and organized this community event.
The event will take place on the grounds of Moody Mansion and will feature live music, food, a bounce house, games, and face painting. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet many adoptable dogs, allowing families to find their newest furry family member.
“We are grateful for Frances’ love and dedication to these animals, as well as her support for the Galveston Island Humane Society,” said Barbara Sanderson, president of the GIHS board of directors. “We look forward to spending a beautiful spring Saturday at this community event.”
