How to dress stylish and comfortable for the Houston Rodeo on a budget

Score rodeo-ready outfits without overspending

HOUSTON, Texas – The Houston Rodeo is an exciting event that brings together music, food, and unforgettable experiences. But one of the biggest questions attendees ask themselves is: What should I wear? Finding the perfect rodeo outfit doesn’t have to break the bank. With a few smart shopping tips, you can create a stylish and comfortable look while sticking to a budget.

Focus on statement pieces

One of the best ways to make an impact with your outfit is to focus on statement pieces. Whether it’s a unique jacket, a stylish vest, bold accessories, or a classic cowboy hat, these items can help you stand out while keeping your overall spending low. Pamela Acosta, a seasoned thrifter, shares her advice:

“Focus on the big pieces, like statement earrings, a cute, unique-looking jacket, or a hat with a cool print. Something that you can mix and match with things you already have at home.”

Thrift your way to the perfect look

Thrift stores are a goldmine for finding rodeo-worthy outfits at a fraction of the price. Stores like Value Village in the Heights and Buffalo Exchange in Upper Kirby offer a variety of Western-inspired pieces that can be incorporated into your everyday wardrobe. Another thrifty shopper, Awilda Stardust, emphasized the importance of versatility:

“I thrift everything, especially for the rodeo. I think you save money if you buy things that you can re-wear—not just things that will only work for the rodeo. A shirt that you can pair with different pants and still wear on the weekends is great.”

Set a realistic budget

When planning your rodeo outfit, setting a budget can help keep costs in check. “Well, for the rodeo, I would say $50. Because what Texan doesn’t already wear cowboy boots, right? So, you just need to focus on individual pieces. I save a lot making sure I always buy pieces I can re-wear” Stardust said.

The final look: Budget-friendly and stylish

By following these tips, our KPRC reporter Joy Addison put together a complete rodeo outfit for just $55! Thrifting and mixing pieces from home made it possible to create a stylish, comfortable, and budget-friendly look.

So, as you prepare for the Houston Rodeo, remember that dressing for the occasion doesn’t have to be expensive. With a little creativity and savvy shopping, you can step into the event looking great without overspending. Happy rodeo season!
