There was a large police presence near a home in Richmond after a woman was shot and killed Sunday.
Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to KPRC 2 that FBCSO deputies were at the 8900 block of Rocky Knoll Lane investigating the fatal shooting of a woman inside the home.
Neighbors stated that several sheriff’s deputies approached the front door of the home shortly after 12 p.m. A short time later, a man inside was taken into custody.
Hours after police had arrived at the scene, the victim and alleged shooter were identified by a press released from Lamar CISD. The victim was identified as Iona Pollard, whom police believe was killed by her husband, David Pollard.
The Pollards reportedly have two children, neither of whom were harmed in the incident. It’s unclear whether the children were inside the home at the time of the crime, although neighbors said they didn’t believe they were at home.
According to the statement from Lamar CISD, Iona was an instructional coach at George Junior High School.
“Our thoughts are with Iona’s two children, who are also part of our Lamar CISD family. The loss of their mother and the circumstances of this tragedy are incredibly heartbreaking. We extend our deepest condolences to the Pollard children, their families, friends, and all who knew Iona, particularly her colleagues and students at George Junior High,” a paragraph of the district’s statement read.
David also held a position in Lamar CISD, working as the district’s school safety coordinator since 2020. He began that role after serving as director of police and security operations at the Texas Medical Center.
KPRC 2′s Rilwan Balogun was at the scene, speaking with neighbors and finding out more information.
Alex Priester, a neighbor, said that he knew the Pollard family and spoke to them regularly. He said he was surprised by the violent events that unfolded.
“This is a tragic situation,” Priester told KPRC 2. “It’s really heartbreaking, you know? I was devastated. I saw a guy that I spent time with and see. For that to happen today, it was something that was shocking.”
A sergeant with the sheriff’s office mentioned that more information would be shared at a later time.
Lamar CISD officials also said support services will be offered to students and staffers across the district Monday morning.
