Houston Humane Society is set to reopen Thursday

Call for fosters as Houston shelters face capacity challenges

Animal shelters across Houston will reopen after shutting down due to the winter weather.

The Houston Humane Society like most is at capacity but expects an influx of stray, lost, and abused animals to come through their doors Thursday when they resume operations.

ā€œYou know that just adds a little bit of stress were limited on not only supplies but space and even staff,ā€ said Angelina Saucedo, the Marketing Manager at the Houston Humane Society.

Saucedo said anyone who housed a stray or lost animal during the freeze and canā€™t afford to keep them can contact the shelter and make an appointment to meet with staff.

ā€œIf you did find an animal and you did want to bring that animal to the Houston Humane Society we encourage you to email admissions at Houstonhumane.org.

Saucedo told KPRC 2 anyone looking to help can do so in several ways.

ā€œThe first thing is fostering if you have a spare bathroom, room in your garage, a spare bedroom, or any space available for an animal we encourage you to foster. Its temporary, we provide all the supplies,ā€ Saucedo said.
