“Our witnesses and video also we have, showing him driving extremely reckless and swerving in and out and really aggressive,” said HPD Lt. R. Willkens.
They said he targeted a car carrying a man in his early 20s and his pregnant girlfriend.
“The truck gets in front of them and starts brake checking them and stopping up on the freeway,” he said.
Police said the couple tried to get away, exited the freeway and ended up at a red light on North McCarty.
“The truck gets next to him at the light, rolls the window down and starts yelling at him and his female friend who’s pregnant,” said Willkens.
Police said the couple kept trying to get away.
“The truck actually goes the wrong way on the other side of McCarty through traffic, gets in front of the car, swerves, locks up the brakes, pulls in front of him and blocks him and jumps out of his car, running up to the car with his hands around his pocket,” he said.
Police said the man in the car, fearing for his safety, shot the other man as he was approaching the car.
He was hit in the arms, torso and leg.
“This individual that did the shooting actually used to be a security guard and still had a pair of handcuffs and so he got out of the car, and handcuffed him,” said Willkens.
Police said the shooter called 911 and the couple stayed on the scene.
The man shot is expected to survive.
No charges have been filed.
