Man found dead in Midtown apartment after neighbors overheard argument

Houston police are investigating a homicide after a man was found dead in his Midtown-area apartment on Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities say the victim, in his late 40s or early 50s, was found in his home around 2:30 p.m. in the 1700 block of Gray Street.

HPD and HFD responded after police say a woman who didn’t live at the complex told staff that the man in the unit may need medical attention, but she left before officers responded.

Cell phone video showed police taped off a unit for the investigation on the third floor.

When they found him, he had suffered blunt force trauma to the face, police said.

“He’s a quiet guy, kept to himself, didn’t have any visitors, which is also part of the suspicious aspect of this investigation, HPD Homicide Det. Connor Davidson said. ”There are enough suspicious aspects of this that obviously that we’re out here conducting an investigation. We’re not going to jump to any conclusions at this time."

Neighbors say they heard an argument coming from his place on Monday night.

Crime scene investigators removed large bags full of evidence from the complex on Tuesday night before the medical examiner’s office arrived.

Police said the apartment itself was a little messy, but there didn’t seem to be any obvious signs of a struggle.

The man lived at Rasmus-Temenos, an affordable housing complex that opened last year to help get those experiencing homelessness off the streets.

A spokesperson for AOG Living, the property management company, told KPRC 2 that non-residents and guests are required to be registered and escorted through the community, adding that they are working with HPD investigators on the “unfortunate incident.”

Detectives could be seen reviewing surveillance video, but as of Tuesday evening, the medical examiner’s office is still working to determine cause of death and no arrests had been made.
