NORTH HOUSTON – The search continues Sunday morning for the suspect, or suspects in a deadly shooting.
It happened just before 11:30 p.m. Saturday night. Five people were shot, including a 16-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl, who were killed following the shooting at party venue known as “The Curfew Club”—a location Houston Police are calling a “pop-up club” off Jensen Dr. and Topping St. on the city’s northside.
When authorities arrived, they arrived to a large crowd made up of mostly teens at an empty business that they say was turned into some type of party. Police say a 16-year-old male died at the scene and a 14-year-old female was taken to Texas Children’s Hospital, where she later died.
Four others were also shot, including a 13-year-old, who is in critical condition.
Investigators learned this party was organized through social media. They say because this was not a regulated event, or legit business, getting evidence is challenging.
“Since they’re not under any regulations, which is what causes the problems with these type of events with no regulations, there’s nothing guarding it,” says Assistant Chief Luis Menendez with HPD.
Houston Mayor John Whitmire was also at the scene.
“It’s a tragedy,” Mayor Whitmire said. I feel for the families. We ought to keep them in our prayers. We lost some young people tonight that was very preventable, if they didn’t come to locations such as this.”
Police are collecting evidence and asking for people who attended the event to come forward if they have any information. Several witnesses have told authorities that they saw a man wearing all-black clothing and a black mask shooting a pistol into the crowd.
