HOUSTON – A man who pleaded guilty of fatally shooting a Georgia man during a premeditated scheme to steal his vehicle and valuables in 2021 was sentenced to life in prison.
Harris County DA Kim Ogg announced the sentencing on Tuesday.

Ronnie Davontay Scott, 29, pleaded guilty to murder on Monday in exchange for a life sentence for killing Donnie Glover, 24, of Georgia.
“Our job is to take killers and dangerous people off the streets, and we are getting it done, case by case,” Ogg said. “The victim in this case had his whole life ahead of him and did absolutely nothing wrong and still lost his life because a man with a gun decided to use violence to take something that didn’t belong to him.”
The incident happened on Feb. 23, 2021, in the 4000 block of Linkwood Drive in southwest Houston shortly after midnight.
Glover, who recently graduated from college and moved to Houston from Georgia in 2020, was trying to begin a romantic relationship with a 21-year-old woman via text messages.
Little did he know, that woman was working with Scott to lure the victim to a secluded area behind an apartment complex to rob him of his money and take his new orange Dodge Charger.
Glover had called 911 and told dispatchers he was being followed by people trying to steal his Charger outside of an apartment complex.
Investigators said the dispatcher heard gunshots. Houston Police officers arrived and found Glover’s body behind the complex.
“Donnie Glover was completely innocent and had been talking to the ‘bait girl’ for months before this happened,” said Assistant DA Mauroun Koutani. “What’s most offensive about the defendant’s behavior is the fact that they were joy riding all over our city in Mr. Glover’s car the day after his death, with no regard for the life they took or the unbelievable heartbreak suffered by his family.”
The case for the 21-year-old woman from the text messages remains pending at this time.
