Houston, Texas – Houston’s own morning show mainstay, Rod Ryan, has officially been inducted into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame, marking a career milestone that celebrates over two decades of laughter, community service, and unforgettable moments on 94.5 The Buzz.
From his larger than life personality to his relentless dedication to Houston charities, Ryan has become much more than a radio host, he’s a hometown legend.
“What an honor, I mean, what a massive honor,” Ryan said during his visit on Houston Life. “Texas isn’t my home state, but Houston took me in. I’ve never seen people more generous anywhere in my life.”
Ryan, who’s originally from Buffalo, New York, moved to Houston after stints in Buffalo and New Orleans. Since arriving, he’s helped raise an estimated $5 million for local charities, including causes supporting breast cancer research, children’s programs, and families in need.
“That money we raise, that’s our listeners’ money,” Ryan explained. “Those are people who started as strangers, and now they’re our extended family. Houston people are just incredible.”
His passion for philanthropy dates back to his early years in Houston, notably after Hurricane Katrina when his team raised half a million dollars in just three days. That moment, he says, showed him “how magical this city really is.”
Ryan’s commitment continues today through ongoing charity work like his annual golf tournament and breast cancer fundraising efforts.
Rod proudly supports a team of doctors at MD Anderson, saying, “I really believe when breast cancer is cured, it’s going to happen right here in our backyard.”
Even with decades in the business and now a Hall of Fame honor, don’t expect Ryan to retire anytime soon.
He joked,“You meet an 80-year-old guy still on the radio every day, and you realize — yeah, I’m not done yet.”
Fans can still wake up with Rod and his crew every weekday morning from 6-10 a.m. on 94.5 The Buzz, where the laughs, music, and heart for Houston never stop.
