USA Today best-selling author Lynne Kelly releases new children’s novel ‘Three Blue Hearts’

HOUSTON – She’s a three-time USA Today best-selling author.

Houston-based author Lynne Kelly appeared on “Houston Life” in April 2024 with her book “The Secret Language of Birds.” Now she’s back with another heartwarming story exploring the bonds between children and wildlife.

Her latest novel, “Three Blue Hearts,” published by Random House Children’s Books, follows Max, a boy struggling to step out of his politician father’s shadow. A trip with his mom to a quiet Texas beach town changes everything when Max discovers an injured octopus washed ashore. Naming her Ursula, he vows to care for her with the help of a local wildlife center and new friends, embarking on a journey of friendship, responsibility, and self-discovery.

Kelly is known for her hands-on research with the animals she writes about. For this book, she observed giant Pacific octopuses at public aquariums and the Houston Zoo. The idea for the story was sparked by a photo of an octopus stranded at a parking lot after a storm in Florida.

“Three Blue Hearts” was released on October 7, just before World Octopus Day. Kelly will celebrate her hometown book release tomorrow at Blue Willow Bookshop.
