HOUSTON – First it was her childhood AGT audition that ended in elimination. Now, 20 years later, Houstonian Jessica Sanchez is the winner of America’s Got Talent Season 20. Along with the million dollar prize, she and her husband Rickie have something else to celebrate: the birth of their first child, expected in just two weeks.
Born in San Diego and now living in Houston, Jessica earned a Golden Buzzer from Sofía Vergara during her Season 20 audition, during which she sang a cover of Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things.” She also surprised viewers by revealing she was pregnant.
After advancing to the Quarterfinals, where she sang “Ordinary” by Alex Warren, she then continued to the Semifinals, singing JVKE’s “Golden Hour” while nine months pregnant.
During the AGT Finals, Jessica sang a sparkling rendition of “Die With a Smile” by Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga. That performance sealed the deal; America voted to put Jessica on top, earning her the one million dollar prize.
Now, after this full-circle moment of winning AGT Season 20, Jessica will be taking a road trip from Los Angeles back home to Houston, where she will await the birth of her first child. Her plan for the ride home: write and work on new music.
AGT once again topped summer viewing as the most-watched alternative broadcast show for the 20th year in a row. Auditions for next season are already underway; acts can register at http://www.agtauditions.com/.
Short, sweet, and full of heart — congratulations, Jessica.
