HOUSTON – As Houston’s population continues to boom, METRO Houston is investing in rider safety and security, accessibility, cleanliness, and reliability. In fact, METRO just announced the addition of 350 brand new buses, 100 new METROLift vehicles, $2.4 million dollars for enhanced cleaning, and a $7 million investment in safety and security.
“People often think of METRO as just bus and rail but we but actually provide a wide variety of services that are useful for everyone,” said METRO Board Chair Elizabeth Brock.
Among those services is the new Community Connector -- an on-demand, microtransit service that helps bridge the gap between the first and last mile of your journey by helping you get to destinations where access to public transit is more challenging. This expanding service is provided by a fleet of all-electric vehicles that can be requested by using the Ride Circuit app.
