Houston, Texas – Oktoberfest season is here, and that means brats, pretzels, and of course—beer! James Simpson, host of What’s On Tap Radio on KPRC 950 AM, stopped by to share a Texas-style Oktoberfest tasting flight featuring some of the Lone Star State’s best seasonal brews.
From Katy’s No Label Brewing to Houston’s own Saint Arnold, Simpson poured up a mix of Bavarian-inspired lagers and local favorites, paired with traditional Oktoberfest bites like brats with sauerkraut, pretzels, and beer cheese. The result? A taste of Germany with a Texas twist.
Oktoberfest is one of the world’s largest beer celebrations, dating back to 1810 in Munich, Germany. Today, it’s celebrated around the globe—including right here in Houston. Local breweries like No Label, Saint Arnold, and Karbach are throwing their own Oktoberfest parties complete with live music, contests, games, and plenty of seasonal beer.
Simpson, who has been giving listeners “someone to have a beer with” for more than a decade on What’s On Tap Radio, is also featured in the upcoming episode of Eat Like a Local, airing September 20. He sits down with Senate Avenue Brewing and Chef Chris Shepherd to talk about food pairings, local beer, and the Houston dining scene.
Want to celebrate Oktoberfest like a local? Grab a stein, check out one of the many Houston-area brewery events, and tune in to What’s On Tap Radio Sundays from 3–5 p.m.
Prost, Houston!
