Houston Life hosts Derrick Shore and Tessa Barrera share their favorites

Where do you take visitors when they come to Houston? (Copyright 2025 by KPRC Click2Houston - All rights reserved.)

What’s the number one stop on your Houston tour when you have friends or family come to town? We posed that question on a recent ā€œHouston Lifeā€ and loved hearing where you like to take your guests. HL hosts Derrick Shore and Tessa Barrera also shared their favorite spots.

Deborah W. of Needville said her go to spot is the Houston Zoo, which also happens to be Derrick’s happy place when hosting visitors.

Tessa likes the view of downtown Houston while playing golf with guests at East River 9, which features par 3 holes.

We ask a new Rhythm Energy Question of the Week each Friday, so if you missed answering our question about where to go with out-of-town guests earlier this month, chime in now with your top destinations in the comments section below.

Here are some of the responses we received when we posed the question on air:

  • Sunset dinner cruise on Lake Conroe. It’s beautiful and the food and music are awesome | Katherine
  • Lagoonfest | Danielle P, Montgomery
  • Rodeo Houston | Tina K, Houston
  • Miller Outdoor Theater | Katherine, Montgomery
  • Post Houston for perfect H-town skyline pictures | Jennifer H, Houston

Some fans of touring the Houston Ship Channel were quick to weigh in:

  • The Sam Houston Boat Tour! Such an amazing Boat Tour across the Houston Ship Channel with a great historical narration of the journey to create the channel! Also, the employees are so helpful and knowledgeable! | John R, Houston
  • The Sam Houston Boat tour is the best tour boat there is across Texas. I would not go someplace else, this tour gives a 1-hour tour through the Houston Ship Channel and shows a lot of historical value that comes with the largest port in the United States. | Eliseo G, Houston
  • Sam Houston boat tour. Free educational tour of the ship channel. | Dougie, Friendswood

Not surprisingly, more than a few people said they take their Space City visitors to Space Center Houston:

  • I enjoy taking first timers to NASA till they get burned out from walking | Miguel G, Houston
  • I’m usually asked to see the Space Center. Houston is often known as ā€œspace cityā€! | Vicki J, Friendswood
  • NASA | Rochelle, Houston
  • NASA | David, Cypress
  • Space Center Houston followed by Pappasito’s | Rosanne S, Friendswood

If your guests arrive hungry or ready to grab a drink, these places get the votes of some people who responded:

  • Spanish Flowers! So good, and started by a local Hispanic woman (yes, my husband is related to her). Multiple Presidents have eaten there, and it’s Zagat-rated. It also has a cool story because when the founder decided to sell, she sold it to one of the employees. | Chrissy B, Tomball
  • Mexican food - (Tex Mex) Pappasito’s. Texas has the best! | Michelle, Sugar Land
  • The newest number spot on the list is Cleburn Cafe. IFKYK! My Jennifer will tell you that I’m not lying! | Abrahan G, Houston
  • Lotus Seafood | Paul F, Houston
  • Beerfoot. Galveston IPA bar. Many to choose from. Very nice people | Lawrence D, Houston
