KPRC 2 Community: Help us clear the shelters by adopting or fostering a shelter pet

HOUSTON – KPRC 2 along with our community partners at Energy Transfer and Houston Christian University want to invite you to help us clear the shelters this month and find loving homes for furry friends in need.

For the entire month of August, participating shelters and rescue groups may offer waived or reduced adoption fees or other incentives to help alleviate shelter overcrowding.

Each year, thousands of animal shelters and rescue groups partner with NBC and Telemundo stations to promote pet adoption and help raise funds to support animal welfare in the community. Since the program’s inception in 2015, more than one million pets have been adopted nationwide.

Today we were able to spotlight the animals at Fort Bend County Animal Services.

Fort Bend County Animal Services have been participating in Clear the Shelters for over a decade - since the first event. They are always looking for fosters as well as adopters since there are a number of ways to help their pets.

Currently, they have over 150 dogs, cats, puppies and kittens available for adoption or foster-to-adopt.

Adopting helps save lives, opens space for more rescues, and gives these sweet pets the loving homes they deserve.

Watch as Lauren Kelly and Rene Vasquez of Fort Bend County Animal Services chat about the different ways you can get involved.
