Humble, Texas – Emerson Study is a talented and determined 16-year-old inline speedskater. In late June, she secured a coveted spot on Team USA after competing at trials held in Florida. Emerson will proudly represent the United States in the Inline Speed Skating World Championships scheduled for September in the People’s Republic of China.
“It’s very exciting, very surreal, I think it still hasn’t fully hit me yet,” Emerson admitted.
Despite her young age, Emerson’s skating career began when she was just five years old. Her passion and dedication to the sport have been nurtured in a supportive family environment as her family owns the Humble Family Skate Center.
“We built it in 1977, my dad built it, and we’ve all skated here, my kids skated here and we’re still family owned and operated today, it’s been almost 48 years,” Emerson’s mom, Rachel Study told Houston Life.
Emerson’s father, Jack Study, also shares memories at the rink.
“I met my wife (Rachel) here. I was a speed skater when I was younger, coming here, I joined the team that was here previously, then eventually, I decided to become a coach,” Jack explained.
He plays a pivotal role in Emerson’s journey as her coach, guiding her through rigorous training and competition.
When asked what makes Emerson so well-equipped for competitive speed skating, Jack alluded to her adaptability, “Learning, she will listen the whole time, she pays attention, she’ll try anything once or see what works for her.”
In addition to her competitive pursuits, Emerson is deeply committed to inspiring and uplifting fellow young skaters. At just 12 years old, she founded a mentorship group specifically for young girls in skating, which has grown to include over 150 members from around the world. This group serves as a safe and encouraging community where members share their victories, challenges, workouts, and training tips.
As Emerson prepares for the world stage in China, her family is fundraising to make sure she can cover travel and competition expenses. They are hosting a benefit on Sunday, July 13th, 2025 at the Humble Family Skate Center from 6pm-9pm.
