HOUSTON – Stepping onto Moorhead’s Blueberry Farm in Conroe can almost feel like stepping back in time. The farm has looked pretty much the same since the 1970s when Albert Moorhead, a retired elementary school principal, planted 20 blueberry plants. Mr. Moorhead came from a long line of farmers -- and within a few short years, his hobby had turned into a business.
Today, Mr. Moorhead’s grandson, Andy Pearson, and his wife, Denise Pearson, own and take care of the farm along with Denise’s identical twin sister, Jennifer Walker, who is the farm’s manager.
During their peak months from May through July, weekends on the farm are poppin’.
“People start showing up at the fence about 6:00am and then we’re handing out hundreds of buckets,” said Denise about their typical weekend routine.
For Denise and Andy, this is more than just a business; it’s continuing the legacy that Grandpa Moorhead started.
“Anytime the farmer quits, usually the farm does as well, so this has been a really cool opportunity for us to be able to do this during our summer,” said Andy.
