HOUSTON – In July 2024, KPRC 2 teamed up with Moody Gardens on a special project highlighting the vibrant life of coral reefs in the Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary.
KPRC 2 Chief Meteorologist Anthony Yanez joined a group of marine conservationists from Moody Gardens and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) on an assignment where he explored the coral reefs in the Gulf.

On April 24, you can watch their underwater adventure from discovering sea life to protecting the reefs in a special documentary, ‘Garden in the Gulf: A Reef Rescue Mission’ at 7 p.m. on KPRC 2.
KPRC 2’s Yanez stopped by the ‘Houston Life’ studio with Moody Gardens Director of Marine Operations Jake Emmert with a special preview ahead of the premiere -- which you can watch in the video above.
“We have a gem in our backyard, and nobody knows it,” says Emmert. With over ten years of experience, Emmert collaborates with many marine and educational organizations on national and international research expeditions to learn more about life underwater.
We have the healthiest reefs in the world, which is why it’s important to spread awareness about coral reefs in the Gulf and how they benefit the ecosystem in the upcoming documentary.
