HOUSTON – From classical to spiritual and jazz to pop, the Community Music Center of Houston educates the community about black legacy, traditions, and heritage through the power of music.
CMCH is a non-profit music performing arts and education organization founded in 1979 by Patricia Johnson and Ron Scales to preserve Black music traditions in danger of being lost.
With a passion for music, CMCH Music Director Anne Lundy shares her knowledge about black composers and styles with underserved communities and children.
A trailblazer in the music scene, Lundy was the first African American woman to conduct in the Houston Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, she has performed nationally and internationally and founded the Scott Joplin Chamber Orchestra -- the nation’s second-oldest active Black chamber orchestra.
This Sunday, Feb 23, she and a group of talented musicians celebrate their heritage at the Black History Month Concert at 5 p.m. in the Eldorado Ballroom in Third Ward Cultural District. The event is free and open to everyone of all ages.
