HOUSTON – Ahead of Saturday Night LIVE’s 50th Anniversary, cast members Andrew Dismukes and James Austin Johnson, both writers and actors on the show, chat about the legendary comedy show.
Dismukes and Johnson, who often collaborate on the show to write and create sketches together, believe performing their own scripts adds an extra dose of adrenalin during their weekly LIVE broadcast.
“When it’s your own thing you’re really kind of -- it’s a high wire act -- and I think it makes for the most exciting sketches,” said Johnson.
Dismukes, who is originally from Port Neches, agreed that anything can happen in front of a studio audience.
“That’s what’s fun about the show. It’s LIVE and it’s this proscenium stage so there are so many fun things that can go wrong that actually add to the sketch,” said Dismukes.
The Saturday Night LIVE 50th Anniversary Special airs Sunday, February 16th at 7pm on KPRC 2.
