HOUSTON – Local sommeliers from some of Houston’s top restaurants and wine bars are gearing up to compete in the city’s premier wine competition and tasting event, known as Iron Sommelier.
This annual event is one of the biggest fundraisers for the Periwinkle Foundation.
Lara Lack, a board member with The Periwinkle Foundation, along with Brennan Harmeier, a sommelier with The Library Wine Bar, stop by Houston Life to chat about this year’s competition and how it supports the Periwinkle Foundation.
For more than 40 years, The Periwinkle Foundation has been committed to offering positive and life-changing programs to create stronger survivors.
Each year, the foundation impacts more than 14,000 children, teens and families through camps, arts and survivor programs.
For this year’s event, guests are invited to sample wines in a private setting at The Post Oak Hotel at Uptown Houston.
Competing sommeliers will select three wines - which focus on a particular wine region, grape or style and personally present the wines they are pouring, while conversing with guests as they taste and compare.
Then, a panel of judges will rate them on wine choice, presentation, creativity, and knowledge of wine selections.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to cast their “corks” for the People’s Choice Award.
Watch the video above to see what Harmeier will be pouring for the competition.
The Iron Sommelier is happening Thursday, November 7, 2024 at the Post Oak Hotel at Uptown Houston from 6 p.m. – 10 p.m.
