HOUSTON – “Hispanic / Latino / Latina / Latinx / Latine Vote” is a new comedy currently being performed at Stages in Houston.
It tackles political issues from the point of view of the lead actress struggling with fertility treatments. To help with the payments, she reluctantly accepts The Political Party’s offer and helps them understand the Hispanic, Latino, Latina, Latinx, and Latine vote.
“In the last two election cycles, I spent a lot of time arguing with strangers online. One night, I stayed up till four in the morning arguing with a woman in Kansas about immigration policy, and guess what, we didn’t change each other’s mind at all,” said playwright Bernardo Cubría.
Instead of engaging in endless Twitter debates, Cubría channeled his experience into a hilarious satirical production. He stepped out of the cyberworld, interviewed community members, and turned those conversations into a script.
Through his play, Cubría hopes that with laughter, people will learn to listen more than lecture.
You can catch “Hispanic / Latino / Latina / Latinx / Latine Vote” at Stages until October 6. Click here for tickets.
