HOUSTON – It’s never too early to start talking to your kids about the dangers of bullying.
That’s the message from Crime Stoppers of Houston.
All month long, KPRC 2 Community is highlighting David’s Legacy Foundation.
David’s Legacy Foundation was created to help keep kids safe from bullies with resources for families, educators, law enforcement and members of the community.
Rania Mankarious, an author, podcaster, and the CEO of Crime Stoppers Houston, offers advice on how and when parents and caretakers should talk to their kids about bullying.
“We want to raise disruptors, people who say - you know what, it’s not funny and I want to support the person being bullied,” Mankarious said.
She recommends starting those conversations early on, with children as young as four and five years old.
Helping them understand what’s acceptable behavior and how to treat people or how to handle a situation when someone is mean to them or when they are mean to someone else.
“You’ve got to lay the foundation early, so that your kid feels comfortable talking to you about it later on,” Mankarious said.
