Inside the ‘Blue Helmets’ exhibit at Houston’s Buffalo Soldiers National Museum
HOUSTON – This year marks the 80th anniversary of World War II and Houston’s Buffalo Soldiers National Museum is exploring the history behind the “Blue Helmets ,” the first African American combat division to be activated during World War II.
This traveling exhibit is on display in the museum’s Founder’s Room through June 30, before moving to other cities around the country.
The exhibition follows the formation of the 93rd Infantry Division or “Blue Helmets,” their early history, training, service in the Pacific Theater, and occupation duties.
The goal of the exhibit is to educate visitors about this historically overlooked Army division.
Houston Life’s Lauren Kelly chats with Jason Fung, the museum’s archivist for a closer look at this educational and inspiring exhibit.
