New alternative to thrifting for your family 👚🥻👕

HOUSTON – Clothing can be so expensive. Especially when kids outgrow them so quickly, or fashion goes out of style.

That’s why we have Hannah M. Le, founder of RE.STATEMENT in the studio, teaching us how to upcycle, be eco-friendly, and save on clothes.

What is Re.Statement?

It is an online marketplace where you can buy bold, one-of-a-kind clothes made from unwanted materials, pieces you can’t find at thrift or retail stores

What is upcycling?

Upcycling is an option to revamp your wardrobe. You can cut, sew, patch, paint, embroider, or block print on clothing you no longer use.

You can see some examples of upcycled clothes sold RE.STATEMENT in the pictures below.

Plus, a fun and easy block printing DIY to upcycle these pieces at home.

If upcycling clothes is not an option, exchange them.

This weekend, RE.STATEMENT is collaborating with Houston Sustainability, a hub for eco-conscious Houstonians, for an Earth Day Swap Party where you can get free, gently used garments in return. It’s a fun, alternative solution to thrift shopping or secondhand fashion. It’s an opportunity that allows you to clean out your closet of clothes you no longer wear and bring home new additions in return for free. Gather up to 10 high-quality, clean items you want to trade (adult-sized clothing, accessories, jewelry) in a reusable bag. Drop your clothes off in the designated sections, and then browse away. All items must be wearable or lightly worn.

Items that are NOT allowed are -

  • Kids’ clothing
  • Underwear, socks, lingerie, swimwear
  • Dirty clothes
