Yes Prep Public Schools awarded $10,000 for music education

HOUSTON – YES Prep Music Teacher Chrissy Lucivjansky and YES Prep Chief Program Officer, Nella Garcia Urban stopped by Houston Life to highlight the importance of music education for low-income students and received a wonderful surprise.

The high-performing public charter schools were chosen as the winners of the Scott and Sandi Borchettas’ MUSIC HAS VALUE Fund, a fund created in 2015 to provide financial aid to nonprofit organizations which support those who make music and aspire to make music.

Borchetta is the president and CEO of Big Machine Label Group, one of the most successful independent record labels in the world.

“I started Big Machine Records in 2005 and we have worked with some of the biggest artists in the business. Currently representing Tim McGraw, Florida Georgia Line, Thomas Rhett, Justin Moore, Sheryl Crow, Rascal Flatts, Aaron Lewis, the list goes on and one,” said Borchetta.

Support of YES Prep will make it possible to ensure that children in Houston’s most underserved communities have access to music education opportunities they need and deserve.

This includes a robust music program at the YES Prep Southeast Secondary campus, which applied for the grant.

Due to the impact of Covid-19, in-person band instruction is limited and the school needs more instrument inventory to help those students who cannot afford to purchase a professional instrument that would allow them to be ready for college or the professional music scene.

“Take the money, get the instruments that you need and enjoy,” said the famous music executive based in Nashville.
