28th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration at Children’s Museum Houston
On January 13, the Children’s Museum Houston will host its 28th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration, featuring a diverse program of musical selections, a Peace March, a reenactment of the iconic “I Have a Dream” speech, and more. The event honors the legacy of Dr. King with messages of unity, justice, and peace.
A Musical Tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. by Community Music Center
On January 14, the Community Music Center of Houston will present a musical tribute to Dr. King at St. Mary of The Purification Catholic Church. The concert will feature a selection of Civil Rights era songs, a unique Hip-Hop orchestra fusion, and classical compositions, providing a rich and diverse musical experience for the audience.
MLK Grande Parade-2024 in Midtown Houston
The MLK Grande Parade, themed “We Still Believe,” will take place on January 15, originating on San Jacinto Street & Elgin Street at 10 a.m. The parade will showcase various performance groups, celebrating the enduring belief in Dr. King’s dream of equality and justice.
46th Annual Original MLK Jr. Day Parade
Downtown Houston will come alive on January 15 with the 46th Annual Original MLK Jr. Day Parade, organized by the Black Heritage Society. Featuring vibrant costumes, floats, marching bands, and community groups, the parade highlights the cultural diversity of Houston. The festivities continue with the MLK Festival at City Hall Herman Square Park.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day at Holocaust Museum Houston
The Holocaust Museum Houston will open its doors on January 15 with free admission, presenting The Kinsey African American Art & History Collection. Visitors can explore this comprehensive exhibit, featuring paintings, sculptures, photographs, rare books, and more, showcasing the contributions of Black Americans throughout history.
2024 Annual MLK Birthday Observance at Rothko Chapel
Rothko Chapel’s Annual MLK Birthday Observance, focused on the public health epidemic of gun violence, is presented in partnership with Houston Moms Demand Action, Daya, The Asian American Foundation (TAAF), and Jung Center Houston. The event includes a memorial dedicated to U.S. victims of gun violence, community tables with information on getting involved, and a keynote speech by David Hogg, Co-Founder of March For Our Lives. The program also features a panel discussion with local public health experts and organizers, as well as contemplative music and poetry.
