HOUSTON – In Houston, thousands of children face a hidden but serious challenge — underwear insecurity. Undies for Everyone, a nonprofit organization headquartered in Houston, is dedicated to changing that by providing new underwear to children living in poverty or crisis.
While underwear may seem like a simple, everyday item, it is foundational to a child’s comfort, dignity and self-esteem. For many children in crisis, access to new underwear is not guaranteed. They often have to wear hand-me-downs or go without, which can cause embarrassment and isolation, negatively impacting their ability to learn, make friends and grow.
Undies for Everyone champions the belief that every child deserves these basics that many take for granted. As researcher and storyteller Brené Brown says, “Underwear is something you take for granted until you don’t have it.”
Making an Impact in Houston and Beyond
Founded in 2012 by Rabbi Amy Weiss, Undies for Everyone has served thousands of children across the U.S., distributing hundreds of thousands of pairs of new underwear in 28 states. In Houston, their home base, the organization has become a vital resource, continuously working to meet the urgent needs of children who lack basic essentials.
The organization distributes underwear to children through Child Protective Services, local school districts and homeless programs, Boys and Girls Club, pediatric mobile units and more.
How You Can Help
Undies for Everyone organizes events such as Undies for Change, which allows businesses and community groups to volunteer together on their own schedule and in their own space. They also hold fundraising and community engagement events like their Bingo & Briefs night, bringing people together to support the cause with a spirit of fun and generosity.
Undies for Everyone welcomes donations and community involvement to expand their reach. Gifts directly provide underwear to children in need, offering comfort and bolstering their self-worth at critical moments.
Giving a gift through Undies for Everyone means giving more than underwear — it means giving a child the confidence to face the day with pride.
