WILLIS, Texas – Willis High School was placed in a hold status after staff members discovered a loaded gun on campus Monday morning.
In an email sent to families, the school confirmed the discovery and said a student has been detained. The gun was also confiscated.

“Students and staff are safe and we expect the hold to be lifted shortly. We appreciate the student who reported the concern so that it could be addressed. We will share additional information with families as it becomes available,” the email reads in part.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said the detained student is 15-years-old. They said the gun was found inside of a backpack after authorities received an anonymous report.
“As an added precaution, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office has assigned additional deputies to the campus and will increase patrols in the area throughout the week,” the sheriff’s office said.
This is the second time in a month a gun has been discovered on the Willis High School campus. Back on Aug. 26, a student was detained after a gun was found inside of a backpack.

“WHS Families,
Willis High School is currently in a hold following a report from a student that led to WHS administrators discovering a loaded gun on campus this morning. The student was identified, the gun has been confiscated and the student has been detained. SROs and campus administrators are completing the investigation and we will provide an update later today.
Students and staff are safe and we expect the hold to be lifted shortly.
