HOUSTON – Temperatures are down and rain chances are up on Friday! The dome of sizzling high pressure that hovered over southeast Texas for the past week has shifted north, allowing for showers and storms to return to the area.
Friday’s wet weather is complements of a low pressure system drifting slowly westward through the Gulf of Mexico. It will stay south of Houston, but the rain associated with it will clip the region, especially between the coast to I-10

The rain will move inland from the coast this morning. Coastal areas will be impacted for most of the morning. Metro Houston will get most of its rain between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Areas west of Houston will see showers between noon and 3 p.m.
Rainfall totals will vary widely. Little accumulation is expected north of I-10. Between I-10 and the coast, rainfall totals will range between a half and one inch. Pockets of heavier rain could produce two to three inches in spots.
Severe weather is not expected. Severe flooding is not likely, either, although heavy tropical downpours could lead to ponding, minor street flooding and hazardous driving conditions.
Friday’s rain and associated cloud cover will keep temperatures in check. Highs will be in the lower 90s, with rain-cooled areas as low as the upper 70s through lunch time.
Not everyone will see rain Friday. If you don’t get wet, don’t worry. More summer showers and storms are on the way each and every day through the weekend and next week.
