KINGWOOD, Texas โ In the aftermath of Tropical Storm Imelda, a Kingwood couple were inspired to help their community. โWe started giving out supplies in my driveway the morning after, and it just took off from there,โ said Richard Abram. He and his wife, Dawn, started a group called Kingwood Kindness aimed at collecting and distributing donations for those in need. โWe had such a good response from the Kingwood community and surrounding areas,โ Abram said. โMy motto is, โIf anything that I have can help you, then itโs yours for the taking.โโAdLike other charities, Kingwood Kindness has been hit hard by the pandemic.

The crash was reported about 2:30 p.m. on the northbound side of the freeway at Kingwood Drive. It was not clear if anyone was injured in the crash. Drivers in the area can expect significant delays while crews work to clear the scene.

Kingwood and Kingwood Park high schools have a special rivalry. Their athletic programs, however, rarely get to compete, as Kingwood is a 6A school and K-Park a 5A school per UIL conference classifications. The men's soccer programs traditionally host a Charity Cup, benefitting the Shriners Hospital for Children Houston. Jennings wished to promote the Shriners Hospital for Children website at www.shrinershospitalsforchildren.org for those who would like to learn more about the organization. They hosted a similar charity game annually with their neighboring school, and Jennings wanted to carry on the tradition and introduce it to Kingwood.
VYPE U: Kingwood Volleyball Season Wraps Up
The Kingwood volleyball team lost their final match 3-0 to Clear Springs on November 24, bringing an end to their season. Jordan Rambo, Katelyn Tillis, Temi Areola, and Sydney Hicks were named first team, all-district. Kaitlyn Morgan and Hannah Smith were named to the second team, and Emily Coronado and Emma Montes were chosen as honorable mentions. The 2020 Kingwood volleyball team had seven graduating seniors. Though the 2020 season did not end ideally, the Kingwood Mustang volleyball team looks forward to improving and coming back better next season.

Kingwood HS renames volleyball court to honor longtime head coach Krista Malmstrom
KINGWOOD, Texas โ Kingwood High School honored longtime volleyball head coach, Krista Malmstrom, with a ceremony and dedication Wednesday afternoon. During the ceremony, the school renamed its volleyball court after Malmstrom during the game between Kingwood High School and Kingwood Park High School, according to a release. The ceremony was held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Kingwood High School Gym. Malmstrom has been with Humble Independent School District since 1981 at Creekwood Middle School before she moved on to work at Kingwood High School three years later as the Lady Mustangs assistant volleyball coach. In 1996, Malmstrom was awarded Houston Area Coach of the Year and also a two-time coach at the UIL All-Star Volleyball Game.

Hurricane evacuees deal with power outage at Kingwood hotel
KINGWOOD, Texas โ The Murphy family evacuated from their home in Orange, Texas to a hotel in Kingwood, where they lost power on Thursday for seven hours. โMurphyโs law, right? You know, we thought something was going to happen, but we didnโt think the hotel was going to be without power,โ Gary Murphy said. The storage shed is destroyed and the yard is a mess, but Murphyโs law failed for them in the best way. โThe homeโs still there, no broken windows, no damage per se,โ Gary Murphy said.

Major Frank Zastoupil a U.S Marine Corps pilot will be flying over Houston Wednesday, including the downtown skyline twice with his two copilots. In an interview with Bryan-College Stationโs The Eagle, he said his interest in aviation starting when he was a junior in high school. Before graduating from Texas A&M, he signed his officer candidacy preparatory work to join the Marine Corps. His decorations include three Strike Flight Air Medals, one Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, and various personal and unit awards.

Kingwood father dies of coronavirus after visit to France prior to coronavirus global attention, son says
Jaime Gomez, a Kingwood resident, began feeling ill after traveling to France, according to his son Jaime Gomez, Jr. Gomez Jr., a cardiologist, said his father's decline was quick. Gomez, Jr. said his father suffered from multiorgan failure. Gomez Jr. said his mother also tested positive for the coronavirus. While grieving during such a difficult time, Gomez, Jr. said he hopes to pass on what he has learned from father.

Kingwood residents ask mayor what can be done to prevent flooding
KINGWOOD, Texas โ Hundreds of residents attended Thursday night's Kingwood town hall meeting. The crowd was anxious to hear what the city of Houston was doing to protect their homes from flooding. "My residents are about one more rainstorm from being homeless," one attendee said. The city of Houston acknowledged the problem and issued a cease and desist order against Perry Homes, Double Oak Construction Inc. and Figure Four Partners Ltd. on Oct. 2. Several members of the Kingwood community strongly voiced their distaste for the Flood Line Marker we displayed after reopening in Kingwood this past December.
