Mother of 8-year-old boy, her common-law husband arrested in death of child
HOUSTON โ Houston police said they have arrested a mother and her common-law husband in the death of her 8-year-old son Tuesday. Police said 24-year-old Kayla Holzendorf and 28-year-old Dominique Lewis have been charged with injury to a child and tampering with evidence. Investigators said paramedics were already at the scene performing CPR on the child. Both paramedics and officers reported seeing multiple injuries on the boyโs body that were not consistent with drowning, investigators said. According to investigators, the childโs biological mother and her husband were in the room on the second floor at the time of what they told police was a drowning.

Billy Joe Shaver dead at 81 due to โmassiveโ stroke, reports say

Officers suspended in suffocation death; protesters unswayed
Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren announced the suspensions at a news conference Thursday amid outrage that city officials had previously kept quiet about Prude's death. Journalists were among those hit by pellets during the confrontation, which came on the second day of peaceful demonstrations over Prude's death. The mayor said she only became aware that Prude's death involved the use of force on Aug. 4. Warren said the seven officers would still be paid because of contract rules and that she was taking the action against the advice of attorneys. Prude's death happened just as the coronavirus was raging out of control in New York and received no public attention at the time.
Mother killed in apparent shark attack off Maine coast
The Maine Marine Patrol is investigating the death of a woman Monday afternoon near Bailey Island. Witnesses at the scene said the woman was swimming off the shore when she was injured in what appeared to be a shark attack. Kayakers helped transport the woman and her daughter back to shore, where they were met by members of the Harpswell EMS squad. Marine Patrol says the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Why is there a lag in reporting COVID-19 deaths?
HOUSTON When the city of Houston reported its first day of double-digit deaths, KPRC 2 noticed one of the deceased dated back to May 4. Persse explains only confirmed deaths from COVID-19 are reported, suspected deaths are not. One is medical, which is filled out by a doctor, hospital staff or a medical examiners office depending on where a person dies. Officials with the Harris County Medical Examiners Office also report no concerns about capacity in the morgue. As of Thursday, there have been 508 deaths reported in Houston and Harris County.
HPD: Body found floating in White Oak Bayou in northwest Houston
Police are investigating the death of a person whose body was found floating in White Oak Bayou Thursday in northwest Houston. A bicyclist spotted the body in the waters off Shady Grove Lane. The Houston Fire Department assisted with the retrieval of the body. Authorities said there are no apparent signs of foul play. They said an autopsy would be conducted to determine the cause of death.
Harris County Jail inmate dies after being found 'unresponsiveโ in his cell, officials say
HOUSTON โ An inmate at the Harris County Jail was found unresponsive in his cell over the weekend, officials said. Court records show the robbery charge was dismissed and then refiled as the burglary charge. The burglary charge was dismissed following Jacobsโ death. The Harris County Sheriffโs Office has asked the Texas Rangers to investigate Jacobsโ death. The Harris County Medical Examinerโs Office has not yet determined a cause of death.

Cremation became the top choice in 2015 and has been climbing in popularity ever since. "Cost is a driving factor," said Mike Nicodemus, licensed funeral director and vice president of cremation services for the NFDA. Today, practicing Catholics are allowed to choose cremation; however, the church still wants a ceremony and for the ashes to be buried, not scattered. Fewer people consider themselves religious today than in the past, lessening the need for a traditional funeral in a church. Or for no extra money at all, you can ask your loved ones to scatter your ashes on the beach.
