HOUSTON – One-half of Houston’s premier power sports couple won’t be leaving Houston just yet.

One day after waiving him as part of their final cuts heading into the regular season, the Houston Texans signed Jonathan Owens to their practice squad. The signing was one of 13 on the day as the Texans began filling out their practice squad.

Owens is not only a 26-year-old defensive back entering his third professional season but also the boyfriend of Spring’s legendary Olympian Simone Biles.

Two former Texas A&M teammates, offensive linemen Ryan McCollum of Klein Oak High School and Carson Green, were also among the practice squad signees.

TE Antony Auclair, DB Shyheim Carter, QB Jeff Driskel, OL Hjalte Froholdt, WR Chris Moore, LB Hardy Nickerson, FB Paul Quessenberry, DL Derek Rivers, OL Lane Taylor, and WR Jordan Veasy round out the list.

Practice squad players train and practice with the regular squad and serve in a depth/development role but are not eligible for actual game action.

That game action could come if a roster spot opened up either on the Texans or with some other NFL team.
