Robot designed to kill coronavirus to be used before Spurs-Rockets game in San Antonio

HOUSTON – Before entering the AT&T Center for their game Thursday night with the San Antonio Spurs, the Houston Rockets will be germ-zapped by a coronavirus-killing UV ray robot.

The team is using the “Xenex LightStrike Robot.”

It uses powerful ultraviolet light to kill the virus and any other pathogen that can live on surfaces, according to Xenex.

Two Xenex robots are zapping areas where the players are, public areas and the front offices. Each robot is priced at $125,000.

San Antonio’s team is first and only professional basketball team to debut and deploy the Xenex LightStrike.

According to a release, more than 750 hospitals are utilizing LightStrike, including, Mayo Clinic facilities, Houston’s MD Anderson Cancer Center, Veterans’ Affairs hospitals and U.S. military healthcare facilities from coast-to-coast.
