Deshaun Watson lays out what the Texans need in their new Head Coach

Search process for new Head Coach and GM continues

HOUSTON – The Texans 2020 season has now finally come to an end. That could not have arrived any sooner.

Final tally was a dismal 4-12 record after beginning the season 0-4. Bill O’Brien was relieved of his duties as Head Coach and General Manager and the losing continued. Sure the Texans had close losses but glaring issues across the board signal changes are needed and coming soon.

Monday the Texans players cleaned out lockers and went through exit interviews before beginning their offseason. Quarterback Deshaun Watson met with the media closing out his best season in his career after throwing for 4,823 yards, 33 touchdowns and only 7 interceptions. Most importantly the Texans signal caller stayed healthy for the full season.

Watson on what they need in a new Head Coach

“A whole culture shift. We need new energy, discipline, structure and a leader to follow as players. That’s what we need. We have to have the love of the game of football and love for the people in the organization. There are too many minds , ideas and people thinking they have the power. We need someone who stands tall and someone we can follow.”

Watson on wanting OC Tim Kelly to remain in the position under the new Head Coach

“His understanding of defenses, run schemes and concepts and knowledge of the game of football is very bright. He helped me take my game to a new level and play the best football of my career.”

On his health

“I’m healthy , ready to go and get ready for the 2021 season.”

On hopefully having WR/Free agent Will Fuller back next season

“It can be explosive and scary. Sunday we put up over 400 yards and 38 points against the Titans. Hopefully we can get him back. I’ll be on the organization to get him back. Get him back with Brandin and Cobb and this group can be special.”

Watson on what he’s personally happy about coming off of the 2020 season

“I played another full year and making a third Pro Bowl. The individual stats and what I accomplished in a disfunctional year. I’m pretty proud of that.”

“We didn’t want the season to end like this. That summed up the whole year in the last couple of minutes. We walked off together and saluted to our fans and went into the lockerroom and had a moment as a team.”
