Cougars QB D'Eriq King to miss remainder of season with knee injury

King suffered knee injury in Thursday night's win

HOUSTON – Houston Cougars quarterback D’Eriq King was putting together one of the most productive seasons in college football, but unfortunately it will be cut short.

KPRC2's Adam Wexler confirmed King will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a knee injury late in the first half of their win over Tulane on Thursday night.

Following a hand-off, King continued sliding away from the play when he suddenly pulled up and immediately began clutching his right knee.

He was limping back to the huddle, but realized something more severe was wrong and hobbled to the sidelines.

After a brief visit with the athletic training staff, King rode the cart back into the locker room and did not return to the game.

King had a passing and rushing touchdown in the game, moving his season total to 50 touchdowns responsible for, which extends his American Athletic Conference record and currently leads the nation.

Following the game Cougars head coach Major Applewhite said, “It wasn’t a contact injury, he simply handed the ball off and went to carry the fake. It honestly stunned all of us when he said he couldn’t straighten his leg out.”

At the time the team did not know the extent of the injury.
