King's decision to stay in Houston paying off big-time

HOUSTON – No player in the nation is responsible for more points this season than Houston quarterback D’Eriq King.

King, who has only been the starting signal-caller for the Cougars for a year now, is flourishing in his role and leading the nation in both passing touchdowns and rushing touchdowns as a QB.

King is only the third player in FBS history with at least 35 passing and 13 rushing touchdowns in a single season. He ranks sixth nationally in pass efficiency and 10th nationally with 2,900 passing yards.

What makes King’s story so special is that many schools did not believe in his ability to play quarterback at the FBS level.

He was recruited heavily by many Division 1, and even Power 5, schools -- but they were recruiting him as an athlete, not a quarterback.

King wanted to continue playing quarterback, as he did at Manvel High School, and the University of Houston gave him that chance.

It’s paid off well for King and the Cougars.
