HOUSTON – A man is in critical condition after being shot in the stomach at a home in southeast Houston, according to the Houston Police Department.
HPD said they received a call around 4:10 a.m. Saturday reporting a shooting in the 6500 block of Fairway Drive.
At the scene, HPD Lt. Pulido said a man was inside a garage with a woman, who was described as a witness, when he was shot from inside the house. The man was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, but police said he has since stabilized.
Officers established a perimeter around the residence after authorities believed the shooter remained inside, and a SWAT team and negotiators were called in.
Negotiators spent roughly two hours attempting to persuade the people inside to come out before the occupants eventually complied. Police said they are now clearing the scene and questioning those who were inside the home, though no arrests have been made.
Investigators described the residence as a known spot where transients sometimes gather. Officers said the shooting stemmed from an argument between a visitor and someone who stays at the home, but detectives are still working to determine the full circumstances.
