CHANNELVIEW, Texas – Harris County Sheriff’s deputies arrested 25-year-old Chase Patin Thursday morning following an overnight manhunt that ended at a home on North Brentwood and South Drive in Channelview.
Deputies said Patin shot one of their own in the leg while they were responding to a family disturbance Wednesday night. Investigators said Patin then stole a deputy’s patrol car, crashed it and fled on foot.
Throughout the night, law enforcement went door to door searching for him. The hours-long manhunt ended when Patin was found hiding behind a wooden board near a shed on the property.
KPRC 2 exclusive video captured the moment deputies put Patin in handcuffs and took him into custody late Thursday morning.
“It was a collaborative effort… agencies,” said Lt. Aaron Waybright of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
The owner of the property where Patin was found said she has no relationship to him. She said she briefly allowed him inside her home but asked him to leave once she realized people were searching for someone who shot a deputy.
Kyle Reynolds, who also lives at the property where Patin was found, said his entire family was handcuffed by deputies after Patin was discovered hiding in their backyard.
Reynolds also said deputies initially mistook him for Patin before realizing they had the wrong man.
“Yes ma’am, there was no evacuation to it, they engaged and extracted him before they moved us,” Reynolds said. “My father was handcuffed, my mother, my wife, and even my brother who wasn’t even here — just walking home.”
Reynolds says the ordeal left him frustrated. “I’m tired and I’m annoyed,” Reynolds said.
Neighbor Rocio Garnica described the experience as unsettling but said the outcome brought relief.
“It is scary, but hey, at least we’re safe,” Garnica said.
Patin is charged with four counts of aggravated assault of a police officer and one count for theft. Patin has been arrested at least five times in the past on charges including DUI and drug possession.
