Authorities previously said the woman’s stepfather called 911, and that the man believed to be involved was detained and questioned by detectives.
On Sunday morning, HCSO identified the victim as Tonya Swink, 41. The suspect was identified as Cody Prince, 29.
Investigators said Swink and Prince were in a dating relationship and had been arguing. Earlier information released by authorities indicated both had been drinking and had been arguing throughout the day. Deputies also said the couple lived at the home with Swink’s stepfather.
Based on the updated information, investigators allege the argument escalated when Swink indicated she wanted to end the relationship, and Prince then shot her. Swink died at the scene, deputies said.
Prince has been charged with murder and was booked into the Harris County Jail, according to HCSO. Detectives have not released additional details about a motive beyond what was shared.
The investigation remains ongoing.
