Suspect shot multiple times after SE Houston homeowner opens fire during attempted break-in

HOUSTON, Texas – A homeowner and a suspected home intruder are both in the hospital after a shootout in southeast Houston on Tuesday.

Houston police were called to the 9400 block of East Avenue around 1 a.m.

Investigators say two men tried to force their way into the home when the homeowner confronted them and opened fire.

One of the suspects returned fire, hitting the homeowner, but was also shot multiple times.

Police say the homeowner managed to drive himself to a nearby fire station for help.

The injured suspect ran from the scene and ended up knocking on a neighbor’s door, two blocks away, for help.

Both the homeowner and the suspect are in stable condition.

The second suspect got away.
