The event is open to the public and will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Acres Homes Multi-Service Center on W. Montgomery Road. During the workshop, attendees will gain practical, legal support to help residents maintain their homes through estate planning. These will be simple, but powerful tools to help preserve generational wealth.

It will be conducted through a partnership between Harris County Attorney Christian D. Menefee’s office, Senator Molly Cook, Harris Co. Public Probate Administrator Brandon Cofield, and other community stakeholders.

Participants will have an opportunity to complete a small estate affidavit or a transfer-on-death deed (TODD), receive guidance on wills and affidavits of heirship, and receive free notary services for completed documents.

Legal experts will also be available for one-on-one services, as well as probate and estate planning attorneys, tax appraisal and property records staff, and organizations offering free or low-cost help.

“Every family deserves the opportunity to protect what they’ve built. This workshop offers working families practical tools to help them maintain and pass on their assets to future generations,” Senator Molly Cook said. “I am proud to work with our partners in Harris County to offer valuable information and legal assistance directly to the people we serve in Senate District 15.”

“It’s important to ensure individuals and families have the tools they need to protect their assets and prepare for the future,” Deputy County Attorney Jon Fombonne added. “This workshop offers a chance to learn more information, but also to talk to our community partners about estate planning and connect with legal aid organizations.”
