19-year-old accused of murder also allegedly shot at McDonald’s employee for slow order

HOUSTON, Texas – A 19-year-old woman has been charged after allegedly shooting at a vehicle near a METRO bus stop, and in a separate incident, shooting a man to death who attacked a METRO bus driver.

Asia Chyal Law has since been charged with aggravated assault and murder, but the charges stem from two separate events. The first incident happened on July 14 at a METRO bus stop on the 6500 block of Tidwell.

According to court documents, before the shooting, Law entered a McDonald’s nearby, where she was allegedly a regular, and asked an employee for a cup of water. The employee told investigators that she was busy, and Law became agitated with the wait.

After getting the water, the employee said Law then stood in front of her and said, “I’m going to spare your life today, and you’re lucky that you’re at work,” then threw the cup of water at her before leaving the restaurant.

The employee said she later left work and was driving near the METRO bus stop when she spotted Law sitting at the stop.

According to court documents, Law pulled out a gun and started shooting at the vehicle, hitting it at least once. The employee said she called the police, who responded and found three bullet casings near the bus stop, but did not see Law.

According to court records, Law herself works in the fast food industry at another restaurant as a cashier and cook. Law was not arrested after the incident on Monday but the following day, on July 15, police responded to reports of a deadly shooting outside a METRO bus in northwest Houston on Antoine near Pinemont.

In this incident, police said a man attacked a bus driver and left, and then a woman, who was not involved in the altercation, followed the man off the bus and shot him to death. The man has since been identified as 28-year-old Kennedy Asante.

Investigators said they reviewed footage from the shooting and immediately recognized her as Law from the shooting on Monday.

Investigators also said Law’s ex-girlfriend called and said she admitted to being involved in the deadly shooting.Law was then charged with murder in connection with this incident.

In probable cause court, Law’s bond was set at $50,000 for the Monday shooting but no bond has been set yet on the murder charge connected to Tuesday’s shooting.

When Law answered a question from the magistrate directly, the magistrate scolded her and said, “I was not talking to you. Do not go to court across the street acting like this. Get your hands out of your pocket.”

Records show she does not have a criminal history in Harris County as an adult.

KPRC 2 learned on Friday the employee who got shot at has not returned to work.

Law is scheduled to appear in court on both charges on Monday morning. She’s also been ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation.
